Friedenwald family.
Successful businessman and philanthropist of Baltimore, Md., Jonas S. Friedenwald (1803-1893) decided that he wanted to use his newly acquired wealth to benefit the Jewish community. He participated in the foundation of several Baltimore Jewish institutions. His son, Aaron (1836-1902), was an ophthalmologist who also was active in several important Jewish organizations in Maryland and the U.S. His son, Harry Friedenwald (1864-1950), also a physician, was active in several Jewish organizations, obtaining leadership positions in several. His son, Jonas Friedenwald (1897-1955), also a physician, was active in the leadership of several Jewish organizations, most notably those dealing with Palestine.
