Sierra Club Oral History Project
The Sierra Club is a nonprofit organization in the US and Canada that works to educate the public on environmental issues and lobbies local, state, and federal bodies for environmental legislation; it was founded in 1892 by the naturalist John Muir who was the first president (1892-1914); The Sierra Club History Committee was created in 1970 to maintain the Sierra Club records and to set up an oral history program; originally, some committee members volunteered as interviewers and were trained by Willa Baum, Head of Bancroft's Regional Oral History Office.
