Larned, Sylvester, 1820-1893

The son of Charles Lamed, Sylvester was also a lawyer. Born in Detroit on September 23, 1820, Sylvester Larned graduated from Yale University in 1842. He studied law and practiced in Detroit until 1861. He became a lieutenant colonel of the 2nd Michigan Infantry during the Civil War, but resigned because of sickness in 1862. Lamed was engaged in the temperance movement and reformation of criminals. He traveled to London, England for his health and died there on November 25, 1893.
