Heckscher, William S. (William Sebastian), 1904-1999
William S. Heckscher was a German-born art historian and artist who came to Duke in 1966 to become chairman of the Art and Art History Department. He served in that capacity until 1969. He was director of Duke University Museum of Art from 1970 to 1974.
