Yampolsky, Mariana, 1925-....

Born in Chicago to a Russian father and German mother, Yampolsky moved to Mexico in 1944 and studied at La Esmeralda school of painting and sculpture in Mexico City. Before taking up photography, Yampolsky worked as an engraver at the Taller de Grafica Popular studio, founded in Mexico in the 1940s by artists who produced for the masses. It was there that she became interested in photography. Her photos often feature the daily life of Mexico's indians.
