Dick, John, Captain.

Captain of militia troops serving the proprietary government of Pennsylvania in an ongoing dispute with the Susquehannah Company of Connecticut over possession of lands in the Wyoming Valley.

In July, 1771, Dick led approximately thirty men with provisions and ammunition to relieve Fort Wyoming, which was under siege by Susquehannah Company forces. Ambushed, Dick and about two-thirds of his men fled into the besieged fort, but lost the supplies. On Aug. 15, the garrison was forced to capitulate. Soon after, Pennsylvania decided to leave the company in undisturbed possession of the valley.
