Wisconsin. Division of Family Services
Created in 1967 within the new Department of Health and Social Services (WIHV85-A674), the Division of Family Services continued the programs formerly administered by the State Department of Public Welfare's (WIHV85-A488) Division for Children and Youth (WIHV85-A487) and Division of Public Assistance (WIHV85-A489). With reorganization of the department in 1977, the Division was abolished and its functions split between the Division of Community Services (WIHV85-A282) and the Division of Economic Assistance (WIHV85-A493).
The Division of Family Services administered child welfare programs, including direct services, foster home care and institutional care. It supervised county administration of state and federal assistance funds and services to the blind, aged, and disabled, and administered a program of medical assistance to the needy of the state.
