Payson, Edward, 1657-1732
Samuel Phillips (A. M. 1650), born in England in 1625, was the eldest child of George Phillips, who left England as a persecuted Puritan minister in 1630, and settled with his family in Massachusetts. In 1651, Samuel became a teacher at the Church of Christ in Rowley, Mass., becoming its minister in 1661.
