Upson, Charles, 1821-1885
Upson was born March 19, 1821 in Connecticut and died in Coldwater (Mich.) on Sept. 5, 1885. He graduated from Yale, moved to Mich. in 1845, and was admitted to the bar in 1847. In 1873 he was 1 of 18 commissioners to revise the state constitution of Michigan. He held various local political and judicial positions. He served as Senator from the 17th District, 1855-1856, from the 10th District 1881-1882, U.S. Attorney General, 1861-1863, and as a member of Congress 1863-1865 and 1869-1871.
