Berry, Llewellyn L.

Llewellyn Longfellow Berry (1876-1954) was secretary-treasurer of the Home and Foreign Missionary Department of the African Methodist Episcopal Church from 1933 until his death in 1954.

Born in Hampton, Virginia, he was brought up as a follower of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, his parents being among those who organized and built the first A.M.E. Church in Virginia. Berry converted at the age of thirteen and began preaching at the age of eighteen. He received his religious education from Kittrell College and Wilberforce University, and served as a pastor in several churches prior to his appointment to the Home and Foreign Missionary Department as Secretary-Treasurer. Berry was responsible for the major development of the Missions' programs.
