W. R. Thomas was assistant editor of the Daily Miners' Register in Central City, Colorado Territory from 1866-1867, and of the Rocky Mountain News in Denver from 1867 to the mid 1870s. He worked in the Adjutant General's Office in Colorado starting in 1872, ranched in Littleton, Colorado for a few years in the 1880s and moved back to Denver in 1885. Steve J. Gardner was executor of his father Chauncey Thomas' estate in Shohola, Pennsylvania.
