Birkhimer, William E. (William Edward), 1848-1914
William E. Birkhimer was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He was a private, 4th Iowa Cavalry Regiment, cadet, U.S. Military Academy (USMA); 2nd and 1st lieutenant and captain, 3rd U.S. Artillery Regiment; Judge Advocate, Department of the Columbia; colonel, 28th U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment; and major and lieutenant-colonel, Corps of Artillery, brigadier general (retired).
