Gillmore, William N.

William N. Gillmore was a United States (U.S.) Army officer who graduated from U.S. Military Academy in 1925 and served in artillery commands for the majority of his military career. During World War II (WWII) he served on the staff or commanded: the Division Artillery of the 11 Armored, 36th Infantry (1944), 1st Armored (5/1944-2/1945) and the 101st Airborne Division (2/1945-12/1945). In the postwar years he commanded the Division Artillery of the 82nd Airborne (12/1945-9/1946), 11th Airborne (1/1948-4/1949) and the 7th Infantry Division (4/1949-7/1950). Gillmore also served in the following commands: IX Corps (2/1951-2/1952), 4th Armored Division (7/1955-6/1956), III Corps (6/1956)-10/1957), and XV Corps, Presidio (1959-1961). Organization commands in which he served were: The Army Security Agency (7/1950-2/1951), Joint Military Assistance Group (JUSMAG), Thailand (8/1953-7/1955) and JUSMAG, Greece (1957-1959). He retired from the military in 1962.
