DeStefano, Lorenzo
Filmmaker Lorenzo DeStefano directed and produced a documentary on jazz guitarist Talmage Farlow (1921-1998) titled Talmage Farlow (Productions A-Propos, 1981). Farlow, born in Greensboro, NC, achieved professional musical success beginning in the 1940s, performing in bands led by Marjorie Hyams, Red Norvo, Artie Shaw, and others. Farlow also began leading his own bands in the 1950s. In 1958, Farlow removed himself from full-time performing and relocated to Sea Bright, NJ, where he worked as a sign painter while teaching occasional guitar lessons and performing at local venues. By the late 1970s, he began performing more broadly, including a reunion with Red Norvo and concert tours throughout the USA and Europe. He passed away in 1998 due to complications from esophageal cancer.
