Schaap, Richard, 1934-

Schaap was born in New York City on September 27, 1934. He earned a B.S. from Cornell University in 1955 and an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University in 1956. He was sports editor, then general editor, then senior editor for Newsweek from 1956-1963, and in 1964 became city editor of the New York Herald Tribune . He wrote articles for Sports Illustrated, the Saturday Evening Post, and other magazines. His books include Mickey Mantle - Indispensable Yankee ; Paul Hornung - Pro Football's Golden Boy ; An Illustrated History of the Olympics ; Instant Replay (about Jerry Kramer); RFK ; and Turned On . He also edited autobiographies of Joe Namath, Frank Beard, and Tom Seaver.
