National Peanut Festival Association.
Organized in 1938 to publicize the peanut, the principal agricultural product of Alabama's wiregrass region. The festival has expanded from a weekend event to a two-week celebration, which includes parades beauty contests, election of a "Peanut Farmer of the Year," livestock shows, recipe contests, a Soap Box Derby, commercial and non-commercial exhibits, and a variety of entertainment.
