New York (Colony). Court of Assizes
New York Court established under the authority of the 1665 Duke's Laws; had original jurisdiction in all criminal cases and civil cases of twenty pounds and upwards. Abolished in 1683. The New York Supreme Court of Judicature was established in 1691; it originally consisted of five judges, two of whom, together with the chief justice constituted a quorum.
