Wilcox, Crittenden & Co.

Manufacturer of marine hardware in Middletown, Conn.; established in 1847 as E.H. & I.K. Penfield; ca. 1850 reorganized as Penfield & Wilcox; dissolved in 1859 when new partnership formed under name of Wilcox & Hall which continued until 1869 when William W. Wilcox formed the new company with Albert R. Crittenden and others. Wilcox, Crittenden & Co. was purchased by North & Judd Manufacturing Company in the 1950s and in 1967 became part of Gulf & Western.
