Pullman Free School of Manual Training.

Industrial and technical school for Pullman, Illinois, residents and Pullman Company employees, opened in 1915.

In his 1897 will, George M. Pullman provided $1,200,000 to establish a "free manual training school" and named as directors Robert T. Lincoln, Frank O. Lowden, and Norman B. Ream, and four others. After consultation with experts, the trustees turned over much of the work of establishing the institution to Duane Doty, who advocated not just manual training, but a comprehensive general and technical curriculum. Construction of the school finally began in 1914, when the endowment had grown enough to provide adequate support for the institution.
