Denver (Colo.). Commission on Community Relations.

Originally established by Denver, Colo. mayor Quigg Newton in 1948 as the Mayor's Committee on Human Relations. Organization became permanent component of city government in 1949. Under ordinance 77, its powers and duties were revised and name changed to Commission on Community Relations (1959). Name of commission subsequently changed to Agency for Human Rights and Community Relations (1984). Current agency addresses issues affecting race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, elderly people, women, people with disabliities, gays, lesbians, bisexual orientation, transgender, immigrants, and refugees.
