Playford, Phillip E. (Phillip Elliott), 1931-
Geologist and historian. Former Director of the Geological Survey of Western Australia. Internationally renowned for his work on Devonian reefs in the Kimberley, modern stromatolites near Shark Bay and the discovery of the Zuytdorp wreck. Awarded Order of Australia in 1998 for his contribution to science and history in W.A.
