John Ruskin, 1819-1900

John Ruskin was born 8 February 1819. He was educated privately, then went to Christ Church Oxford, obtaining his BA 1842 and MA in 1843. He was Rede Lecturer at Cambridge in 1867, and Slade Professor of Fine Art at Oxford from 1870 to 1879 and 1882 to 1884. He was an Honorary member of the Royal Society of Painters in Water-colours, 1873. He was also a member of several foreign Academies. Ruskin produced many publications, many about painting and architecture. He died on 20 January 1900.
