Clinton family.

William Clinton, brother of Henry Clinton, began his military service in 1784. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1787, captain in 1790, and lieutenant colonel in 1794. He was made aide-de-camp to the Duke of York in 1796 and was promoted to colonel in 1801. He governed Madeira as brigadier general in 1801 and was made quartermaster general in Ireland in 1804. He was promoted to major general in 1808, to lieutenant general in 1813, and to general in 1830.

Henry Clinton, brother of William Clinton, entered the army as ensign, 1787; was appointed aide-de-camp to the Duke of York, 1793; was promoted to major, 1794, and then lieutenant colonel, 1795; was made aide-de-camp to Lord Cornwallis, 1797, then assistant adjutant general in the eastern district, 1801, and then assistant adjutant general in India, 1802. He was promoted to colonel, 1803, to brigadier general, 1808, and then to major general, 1810. In 1813, he received the order of the Tower and the Sword.
