Wisconsin. Bureau of Community Health

In 1963, the State Board of Health (WIHV85-A531) created the Community Health Services Section. The Bureau of Maternal and Child Health (WIHV89-A97) was placed in the section as well as the divisions of school health, nutrition, child behavior and development, health education, and dental health. With reorganization of state government in 1967, the Community Health Services Section became the Bureau of Community Health Services in the Division of Health (WIHV85-A364) in the new Dept. of Health and Social Services (WIHV85-A674). Later its name was shortened to the Bureau of Community Health. In 1981 it was combined with the Bureau of Prevention to create the Bureau of Community Health and Prevention (WIHV85-A689). In Wisconsin State Archives' database entries, the above form of name is used for all appropriate records dated 1963-1981.

The Bureau was responsible for promoting general health through educational, demonstration, and training programs.
