Carpenter, Liz, 1920-

Elizabeth Sutherland Carpenter (b. 1920) operated the Carpenter News Bureau with her husband, Leslie Carpenter, representing national newspapers from 1945 to 1961. She was an executive assistant to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1961 to 1963, and she was Press Secretary and Staff Director for Lady Bird Johnson from 1963 to 1969. She later served as Assistant Secretary of Education from 1980 to 1981.
