Calbreath, Donald F.
Dissatisfied with changing Medicare and industry policies, Dr. Donald F. Calbreath left thirteen years of hospital laboratory experience to join the Whitworth College faculty as assistant professor of organic and biochemistry in 1984. He was not disappointed with Whitworth’s emphasis on “Mind and Heart” education of students. As a full professor he capped his interest in effective teaching with the publication of Clinical Chemistry – a Fundamental Textbook in 1992. Calbreath retired in 2006, but was retained to teach biochemistry and clinical chemistry for the 2006-2007 academic year. The chemistry staff noted that they could find no person to teach on an interim basis “who knew the ‘stuff’ like he did!”
