Joseph Byrne Lockey was born Feb. 2, 1877 in Florida; BS, Univ. of Nashville (1902); MA (1909) and PhD. (1920), Columbia Univ.; departmental inspector of public instruction for Peru, 1909-14; served as lieutenant in US Infantry in France during WWI; asst. professor of history (1922-25), assoc. professor (1925-29), professor (1929-1946), UCLA; wrote on Pan-Americanism; died 1946.
