Davis, William Stearns, 1877-1930
William Stearns Davis was born in Amherst, Massachusetts on April 30, 1877. He earned a B.A. in 1900, an M.A. in 1901 and a Ph.D. in 1905 from Harvard University. He was a lecturer at Radcliffe (1904-1905), an instructor at Beloit College, Wisconsin (1906-1907) and an associate professor of Medieval and Modern European history at Oberlin (1907-1909). In 1909, Dr. Davis joined the staff of the University of Minnesota as professor of history, where he stayed until he resigned in 1927. After his resignation he returned to Exeter, New Hampshire to focus on his writing career. Dr. Davis passed away on February 15, 1930 at the age of 52.
