Atwell, Winifred
Musician and composer. Born in Trinidad in 1914, Atwell combined classical music and boogie-woogie early in her career. When her very successful career in the UK declined, she came to live in Australia in the 1970s, dying in Sydney, a naturalized Australian, in 1983. Atwell is best known as a honky-tonk pianist.
