Stewart, Archibald E. (Archibald Evan), 1834-1899

Born 21 Aug. 1834 in Randolph Township, McLean County, Ill., in 1850 he attended Wesleyan University in Bloomington, as a member of the first class. He completed his education in 1854. In 1856, he studied medicine under Hon. H. Noble, of Heyworth, and one year later entered Rush Medical College in Chicago. He then went to Philadelphia and attended Jefferson College, from which he graduated in 1858. In May 1859, he married Emily Stewart of Fairmont, W. Va., and had five children. In 1862, Dr. Stewart enlisted with the 94th Illinois Infantry and was appointed Regimental Surgeon. In 1878, he was elected to the legislature by the Republicans, and served two terms. Stewart died on 4 Apr. 1899.
