Ream, Glen Orville, 1893-
Glen O. Ream, born in 1893, was principal at Albuquerque High School for over thirty years. He received his M.A. from Yale University and attended a short session at the Chicago Academy of Art. Ream used the latter experience in his cartooning (which appeared in numerous publications such as the Albuquerque tribune, Baptist New Mexican magazine, New Mexico magazine, and the New Mexico school review). Many of Ream's cartoons dealt with school-related phenomena, while others, especially those which formed part of the comic strip "Little first Americans" addressed the culture of Native Americans in the Southwest, albeit in a stereotypical and paternalistic manner. The subtexts of the cartoons display the dominant ethnic and gender stereotypes of the era. Ream also illustrated the book Told in the twilight by Isis Harrington.
