Bachelot de La Pylaie, Auguste Jean Marie, baron, 1786- 1856.

Bachelot De la Pylaie pursued varied interests in exploration, botany, archeology and politics. He traveled to Newfoundland in 1816 and 1819-1820, collected botanical specimens and made notes on the flora of the area. He planned to produce a more extensive description of Newfoundland flora that would include his own illustrations, but he only suceeded in publishing the first part of Flore de terre-neuve et les Iles St. Pierre et Miclon, in 1829. Some of Bachelot de La Pylaie's unpublished manuscript, including his travel journals and an Essai sur la flora de terre-neuve et des Iles St. Pierre et Miclon, are in Paris at the MuseĢum national d'histoire naturelle, where his herbarium specimens may also be found.
