Murphy, John F. X. (John Francis Xavier), 1876-1952.
Jesuit priest, historian and professor.
Murphy was born in 1876 in Nashua, New Hampshire. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1893 and was ordained in 1909. He taught at several colleges and universities before coming to Boston College in 1929, where he taught history in the Graduate School. Outside of the classroom, Murphy actively gave public lectures on topics including Irish politics, dangers of international communism, and the persecution of Catholics in Mexico and Spain. He published a controversial article, "The Problem of International Judaism" (1934). Murphy died in 1952.
