Whitewater Canal Association
The Whitewater Canal was part of an internal improvements act passed by the Indiana Legislature in 1836. By 1865 the canal was made obsolete by the Whitewater Valley Railroad, and the canal deteriorated. The Whitewater Canal Association was formed in 1941 to restore the canal. By the 1960s the canal, centering on Metamora, had become a thriving tourist attraction.
