Young, Cy, 1867-1955

Denton True Young was nicknamed "Cy," which was short for Cyclone, in reference to the whirlwind force of pitching. Young pitched for the Cleveland Spiders of the National League (1890-1898), St. Louis of the National League (1899-1900, known as Perfectos 1899, then Cardinals 1900- ), Boston of the American League (1901-1908, 1907 as player-manager, known as Somersets 1901-1902, Pilgrims 1903-1906, then Red Sox 1907- ), Cleveland Naps of the American League (1909-1911), and the Boston Rustlers of the National League (1911). He was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 and inducted at the first ceremony in 1939.
