Kilpatrick, John R. (John Reed), 1889-1960

John Reed Kilpatrick (1889-1960) was born in New York City. He earned his B.A. from Yale in 1911, and enlisted with the New York State Guard from 1912 to 1917. He was chief of the regulating office, AEF as colonel in World War I, then discharged in 1919. He served as President of Madison Square Garden from 1933 to 1942, and returned to active duty in March 1942. He advanced to the rank of brigadier general in July 1942, and was commanding general of the Newport News Port of Embarkation from 1942 to 1945.
