Jeanette MacDonald was born June 18, 1901 in Philadelphia; Broadway chorus girl in 1920, rapidly reached stardom in stage musicals and operettas; film debut, The love parade, 1929; teamed with Maurice Chevalier at Paramount; from 1933 at MGM, she paired with Nelson Eddy in singing partnership; married actor Gene Raymond, 1937; retired from screen to seek a new career in concert halls and on stage; died in 1965.
