Sidney Smith, 1883-1958.

Biographical note: Louisville native Sidney Smith served in the First Kentucky Infantry and 138th Field Artillery of the Kentucky National Guard. He saw action during the Mexican border dispute (1916) and in France during World War I. Following the war he left the service to practice law for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. He later rejoined the National Guard, and during the mid-1930s rose to the rank of colonel and commanded the 138th until his retirement in 1940. He resumed his legal career with the railroad, rising to the position of vice president and general counsel. He retired in 1953 and died in Louisville in 1958.
