Harper, Redd, 1903-1992

Gospel singer, songwriter, musician, radio broadcaster; born September 29, 1903; played in a dance band, wrote and produced radio programs for the Mutual Network, and originated and produced REDD HARPER'S HOLLYWOOD ROUNDUP; began writing evangelistic music after his conversion (ca. 1950); received the ASCAP award for song writing, 1954; appeared in several films including the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's MR. TEXAS (1951) AND OILTOWN, USA (1953) and afterward used the character name, Mr. Texas, professionally; appeared as a guest at BGEA crusades and events, 1953-1956; began own evangelistic career, 1956.
