Kellogg, Grace Wells.
Grace Wells Howitt evacuated from San Francisco following the 1906 earthquake and lived in Los Gatos, California until she died in 1949. Beatrice Fay Howitt (1891-1982) was a bacteriologist, botanist and avid conservationist who was recognized for her work in influenza, poliomyelitis, and encephalomyelitis. Her father, Dr. Henry Orton Howitt, practiced in Marin County for more than 60 years (1893-1953). Beatrice, a member of the California Native Plant Society, was the author of two books: Vascular Plants of Monterey County and Wild Flowers of the Monterey Area.
