Kruse, William F., 1891-1952

One of five defendants charged in Chicago in 1918 with conspiracy to violate the Espionage Law.

Each was found guilty and sentenced to twenty years in prison, but the verdict was later appealed and overturned. Director of the Young People's Department of the Socialist Party's national office and National Secretary of the Young Peoples's Socialist League at the time of indictment. Defeated Socialist candidate for U.S. House of Representative from Illinois 6th District in 1920. Worked as a motion picture camera man and later at Bell and Howell as Head of the Film Division and made educational filmstrips during WWII. Also Secretary of the German-American Anti-Axis Committee in the 1940's.
