Jay, Philip, 1898-

Born June 5, 1898 in Detroit, Philip Jay graduated from Detroit Central High School in 1918. After attending Detroit Junior College for one year (1918-19), he enrolled in the U-M School of Dentistry, receiving his D.D.S. degree in 1923. He then attended the U-M School of Graduate Studies, earning his Master of Science degree in 1924.

From 1925 to 1929, Jay served as an associate in bacteriology at the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry. In 1929, he came to the University of Michigan as research associate, a post he held until 1938 when named research assistant professor. In 1940, Jay was appointed assistant professor of dentistry, associate professor in 1943 and full professor in 1948.
