Lifshutz, Oscar M (1916-1990)

Lieutenant Colonel Oscar M Lifshutz (1916-1990) served as rabbi of Agudas Achim North Shore Congregation in Chicago, Illinois before heading into the US Army where he served as an advisor to General Mark Clark at the end of World War II. His service brought him to Eastern Europe where he was involved in the restoration of religious services and artifacts. He would go on to a decorated career as chaplain earning six combat stars while on campaign in the Korean War and later as an executive officer at the Army Chaplain School. In 1949 he supervised the transport of Theodor Herzl's remains to Israel for burial.
