Gilbreath, William

Businessman and former Army Captain, Gilbreath was instrumental in the development and promotion of the north-south Dixie Highway. The Highway, begun in 1915, had two routes, a Western Division that carried travelers from Chicago, Illinois, into the south via Indianapolis, Indiana, Nashville, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia; and an Eastern Division that had its northern-most terminus in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, with a route running through Detroit, Michigan, Toledo and Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lexington, Kentucky, with the southern terminus in Miami Beach, Florida.
