Roebling, John Augustus, 1806-1869
John A. Roebling emigrated to New Jersey from Germany in 1831, abandoned farming, and returned to his profession of engineering. He moved to Trenton, N.J., in about 1848 and built a steel wire plant, operated as John A. Roebling's Sons Company. John A. Roebling designed many bridges and was the chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge.
