Capin family.
Founded in 1949 by the descendants of Hyman Capin (né Kapinski), a Lithuanian immigrant to Pennsylvania, who moved to Tucson, Arizona, in 1906. He worked as a tailor in Tucson before moving to El Paso, Texas, in order to supply uniforms to troops based there. In 1919 the Capin family moved to Nogales, Arizona, and continued to supply the military with uniforms. They also acquired several stores in Nogales and Texas. After Hyman's death in 1935 his family continued the business, and formed the Capin Mercantile Corporation in 1949. The corporation continued to open new stores throughout Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
