Long, Elizabeth, 1944-
Eleanor (Nell) Rivett (1882-1972) was an Australian missionary with the London Missionary Society who worked in girls' education in India from 1907-1947. Her father was Rev. Albert Rivett, a Congregational minister. She was educated at Melbourne University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1904 and a Master of Arts degree in 1905. Her brother Sir Albert Cherbury David Rivett (1885-1961) was educated at Melbourne and Oxford Universities, and became a professor in chemistry at the University of Melbourne. In 1911 he married Stella Deakin, daughter of Alfred Deakin. In 1927 he became the first chief executive officer of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and from 1946 to 1949 he was chairman of CSIR.
