Bollinger, Vera Ethel, 1894-1981
Vera Ethel Bollinger was born at Island Lake, ND on October 15, 1894 to Emma Jordan and Charles A. Bollinger. Vera graduated from Bisbee high school in 1912. She attended the University of North Dakota, earning her teachers certificate (1915), B.A. in English and Speech (1919) and M.Ed. (1930). A life-long educator, Vera taught at the following elementary and high schools: Bisbee (1911,1916-1917), Rolette (1912-1913), Bathgate (1915-1916), Mayville (1919-1921), Jamestown (1921-1925), Devils Lake (1929-1930). She served as Assistant Principal in Faribault, MN (1925-1928). After receiving her M.Ed., Vera taught at the following schools: UND (1930-1932), Dickinson State Teachers College (1932-1936), Valley City State Teachers College (1936-1950). She served as Dean of Women from 1943 until 1950, when she resigned to take care of her ailing mother. She returned to teach at VCSTC in 1957, retiring in 1963. Vera was active in various organizations: American Association of University Women, National and North Dakota Education Association, National Association of Deans of Women, Zonta International, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Pi Lambda Theta, Kappa Delta Pi, and the North Dakota Mother of the Year Committee. She died December 17, 1981.
