Adams, Lemuel, 1831-1904.

Lieutenant, 22nd Illinois Infantry, Co. D; resident of Greenville, Illinois.

Born in Ohio, Adams emigrated to Illinois in the early 1850s. He worked as a blacksmith before the Civil War. Wounded at the Battle of Belmont, he convalesced at the hospital in Cairo, Illinois, and was discharged in November 1862. He became postmaster at Greenville in 1882, and in 1891 became an auditor for the United States government in Washington, D. C., eventually working for the Treasurer's office. Adams was married twice, first to Julia E. Birge, and second to Anna Morris.
