Nixon, Sallie
Sallie Nixon was born in Henderson, N.C. She and her husband Caldwell Nixon moved to Nebraska from North Carolina in 1967. After taking a class from poet Ted Kooser, Nixon was inspired to attend the University of Nebraska in 1969. Following her studies, Nixon returned to North Carolina. Her collections of poetry include "Surely, Goodness and Mercy" (1965), "Second Grace" (1977), "Spiraling" (1990), and "A Kind of Peace" (2006). Ted Kooser was Poet Laureate of the United States, 2004-2006. He was born in Ames, Iowa, in 1939. He earned his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in 1962 and his graduate degree from the University of Nebraska in 1968. Kooser's poetry collections include "Delights & Shadows," winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize.
